The Anecdote in the Synthipa Philosopha Mythology
by Sophronius, the Bishop of Vratza

The article examines a part of the stories in the Synthipa Philosopha Mythology, inserted in the Second Vidin Collection (1802) by St. Sophronius, Bishop of Vratza. The anecdotes are about wives, who outwit their gullible husbands.

The anecdote in the Synthipa Philosopha Mythology is in the periphery of the literature of Sophronius. At the beginning of the century laugh had not become a part of the Bulgarian Renaissance’s culture yet. The reason for this is that the culture then had not secular character and had not been detached from the Christianity yet.

The ridiculous in the Synthipa Philosopha Mythology is orientated towards showing of examples for deviations from the moral norm.
