Gancho Savov

Slovenians and Their Merry World

This research is result of his long-lasting observation on Slovenian folk humor. This is not only the first such work here but it is also the first time the author systematizes the centers and regions of the merry world of Slovenia, mainly in the oral but also in the other folkloric arts and customs. Thus, he wants to disprove the skeptic opinion of some authors claiming Slovenian humor has a limited manifestation. This work analyzes the richness of genre of the humoristic and satiric prose. It presents original manifestations in the separate folkloric arts and explains specific moral concepts pertaining to Slovenians. The author also comes upon some similar, if not identical, works both in Slovenian and Bulgarian humoristic oral folklore.

The text published herein is in fact part of a comprehensive research under the same heading.
