The Comic in the Feuilletons of Aleko Konstantinov
The present work studies the essence of the comic in
feuilletons by Aleko Konstantinov. The comic is understood in terms
of contradiction (a concept widely used in aesthetics) between power
and morality. In his feuilleton During the Elections in Svishtov
the author stresses the moral influence of the powerful of the day
on the electorate. This moral influence is a demagogic form of violence
and brutality before and at the time of elections. The feuilletons
Beelzebub’s Triumph and Beelzebub’s Prayer
study the comic struggles between political leaders, driven by satanic
wishes.
The conclusion, which we could draw, is that the comic
in the studied feuilletons by Aleko Konstantinov is originated as
a result of the exposing of the hidden insidious intentions of the
powerful of the day to present themselves as democrats and good
rulers.
